Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to attend OFJH without having bought a ticket in advance?
Yes. You can pay for your entry ticket directly at the reception desk.⚠️Only cash and French cheques will be accepted.⚠️
You can also reserve your spot by ordering a "payment on site" ticket and paying on site.
Can you buy games at OFJH?
Yes. Publishers will be selling their latest releases and most of their catalogue, often at a special convention price. A professional retailer will also offer games from international publishers who aren’t attending.
Can you play games other than historical games?
No. OFJH is entirely dedicated to games with a historical theme or conflict-based mechanics. In short: wargames, strategy games, history games, and conflict games. So you’ll be able to play Versailles 1919, The War of the Ring, or Great War Commander alike.
Will it be possible to arrange games in advance?
Yes. After booking your entry ticket, you’ll be able to fill in the game-planning file. You can list the other player(s) who will take part, or propose games that others can join. One or more tables will then be reserved so you can set up your monster game. You’ll need to indicate your requirements in advance in the planning file mentioned above. On site, several options will also be available to help you find players or fill out a game, but we strongly recommend arranging your games in advance whenever possible.
Is the wargamer’s flea market a “Bring & Buy”?
Yes.⚠️ Please note that there is a limit of 6 games for sale per participant, otherwise it would become unmanageable. The idea is simple: a large table will be set up at the OFJH welcome desk. Drop off the games you want to sell. On a Post-it note (provided), write your name, phone number, and the price, then stick it to the game. Buyers can browse the selection at their leisure and contact you by text message or phone if they’re interested. Please respect the spirit of the event: wargames, strategy games, history games, and conflict games. This isn’t the place to get rid of the Shrek Cluedo your daughter doesn’t want anymore.💰 Bring some cash too, because not everyone will have PayPal—especially if you’re looking to feed your compulsive wargame acquisition habit.
What is the refund policy?
We will grant you a full refund if you request it up to 20 days before the event. After that deadline, no refunds will be issued. When we pay the full venue rental fee to the hotel—no later than 20 days before the event—this commitment becomes final and non-refundable, even if the event is later cancelled (in that case, we would agree on a new date for OFJH with the hotel, and all amounts paid would be carried over). That is why the same rule applies to participant refunds. To finalize a refund request, a receipt or proof of purchase will be required. If the refund is approved, it will be processed and a credit will be automatically applied to your original method of payment.
⚠️ Please note: OFJH organizers are not responsible for accommodation refunds. The hotel’s policy provides a full refund up to 48 hours before the start of the event for rooms booked as part of OFJH.
Can I leave my game set up on a table overnight?
Yes. The hotel staff have been instructed not to touch any materials on the tables during the four days of the event. You’ll be able to resume a game exactly where you left off the day before.
Am I guaranteed to roll well at OFJH?
On the Venue & Accommodation page of this website, you’ll find a link to book your room(s) on site at a preferential rate. Although the event runs from Thursday evening to Sunday, you may wish to arrive earlier or leave on Monday morning (or later). That is, of course, possible. ⚠️ Please note that room bookings are not the responsibility of OFJH organizers. The hotel’s room refund policy is set by the hotel and detailed in its terms and conditions.
How can I find the list of attending publishers and designers? And the list of tournaments?
This website will be updated regularly, and you can find all the information on our Facebook, X, and Instagram pages, as well as on the Strategikon forum.
How can I book a room at the event venue?
OFJH organizers may have many talents, but if they knew the secret to making dice roll the right way, you’d find them at the casino rather than on Stalingrad ’42.
How will catering/food service be organized?
The M-SPA hotel has a restaurant/brasserie and a bar. You’ll be able to pre-book certain meals when you book your room.
If I’m not staying on site, can I still park at the hotel?
Yes. A large free car park is available on site.
I don’t have a car—can I come by public transport?
Yes. Many hotels are located near the event. In addition, Bordeaux is internationally renowned for its high-quality tourist welcome, so you’ll have a very wide range of accommodation options to choose from.
If I don’t want to stay at the hotel, are there any nearby accommodation options?
Yes. Direct access from central Bordeaux, the train station, and the airport via Tram Line A—Cadera Issartier stop right in front of the hotel.
